During our initial session, a client mentioned that she had stopped seeing one of her doctors a few years prior. She told me she always left his office feeling like a failure, having tried several weight loss programs to no avail. As she recalled her experience, I could sense it was painful. "I didn't feel like I was being heard," she expressed. "He kept suggesting weight loss surgery, and I didn't want to go in that direction. It just wasn't for me. He made me feel like I was nothing more than my weight. That went on for years. I hated going!"
I do not doubt that he meant well. However, I'm glad for my clients' sake, and for those who have had similar experiences, that coaching employs a very different approach. The saddest part of this scenario is that her weight was not about food (as far as eating too many calories). I told her this during our session. She cried, knowing that someone finally realized what she had been thinking for years. And it's true. There is more to weight loss than the old "calories in minus calories out" equation. One has to look deeper to uncover the underlying imbalances/root causes, unique to each individual.
There is no "one size fits all" when it comes to health and healing. Health transformation is not about the next popular trend because the body is unique, not only in what it needs but also in how it adapts to change. So, in addition to addressing root causes, my integrative and functional nutrition sessions also incorporate health and wellness coaching. Coaching is included because even the best program will be of little value if one cannot sustain the recommendations or changes long term.
My comprehensive program focuses on helping you make step-by-step changes while I provide ongoing support as we address the underlying imbalances impacting your health. We will work together to facilitate lasting transformations on your journey toward restoring your health integrity.
